| “Took?” Halbarad asked. “Pippin is a Took,” Frodo reminded him. Halbarad grinned, remembering the lively lad. LOL! That's great. To explain what a Took is you only have to say "Pippin" and everyone (who has met Pippin before) understands ;-) I like the Quarantined Universe very much and can't wait to see all those puppies exploring Bag End. | Oooooh another Q story! How wonderful. I think that my parents already have a tookish puppy but he is big, black and likes to jump fences! He certainly needs as much looking after and entertaining as Pippin. (They do live in a midlands shire.) Author Reply: Thank you for your enthusiasm! | Puppies! Hooray! Ah, Halbarad. *sigh* Lovely weaving of possibilities. Yes, I can see the Dwarves offering to help rebuild Annuminas... and shrewd creatures as they are, more than half-expecting never to have to fulfil their part of the bargain. Though if the King did return to the Northlands, they'd still "win", for that would mean that the dark things had been cast down and a brighter future had arrived. Two days' ride from Hobbiton to Evendim? That seems a little short to me, unless they are going direct cross-country, and they would still have to cross the Brandywine at some point (at least I think they would, not having a map in front of me). I estimated a travelling party on horseback/ponies (my "equine consultant" tells me that ponies travel at about the same speed as horses, isn't that interesting?) would need a good week to go from the Bridge to Annuminas, while researching for a story, measuring distances and finding out speed of travel, but I suppose Rangers on fast horses could go faster, if they pushed the horses... Author Reply: Puppies! And I agree with you about the Dwarves -- it's probably a win-win situation for them. I don't have my "Atlas of Middle-earth" handy at the moment, but as I recall, Bag End to Lake Evendim is about 75 miles (at most). I would think that horses could easily make that distance in two days. I don't believe that the Brandywine (or any other river) needs to be crossed, riding north through the Shire; the Brandywine is south of Hobbiton, not north. | |

| Hello, wonderful Shirebound! It's been a while since I R & R'd at SoA, but I just had to respond to your wonderful Quarantined sequel. I love to visit your particular corner of the fanfic universe. So colorful, dramatic, suspenseful and loving! And always so beautifully written! I hope we'll have many chapters of danger and tender h/c. I still love a woozy Frodo, after all these years. I'll be waiting eagerly for each new chapter! Let it rip, girlfriend! Well, I have not been writing fan fiction because I have been writing an original novel. It should be out in about six weeks. I go started by writing fan fiction and, since you are one of my most inspiring authors, can I send you a copy, just out of gratitude? It's an easy read, and between us, I included a certain blue-eyed, dark-haired sixteen-year-old boy with a devoted, slightly gray-haired father. They aren't the central characters, but I enjoyed working them into the story line. I just smiled with joy as I read these lines: "Ah, but there’s a bit of magic to Estel, my lad,” Bilbo said from where he sat nearby on the big, overstuffed chair. He recalled how the Ranger’s very touch had calmed Frodo while the lad was in the midst of that strange tree-sickness. And four years before, he had knelt by the fevered lad’s bed and somehow guided him back to consciousness. There was magic to him, indeed... and was much more than he appeared."
