Elladan and Elrohir's Not So Excellent Adventure  by Fiondil 44 Review(s)

The minders must have been rather concerned when E2 re-emerged from the safety of the dwarves' realm. They are building rather a reputation for themselves as - to put it mildly - reckless and irresponsible.

Still - it started well. But they could obviously not resist a marker that said 'Stop. Do not Enter.' And now Elrohir is on the point of drowning/expiring from hypothermia and a mysterious arrival has - well - arrived.

Love the mystic part where Elladan stayed his hand in tribute to the Lord of Forests.

Author Reply: Oh, I'm so glad you caught that about the Lord of Forests. That scene rather surprised me. I didn't even see the great oak myself until Elladan did, but once I did I knew Who was watching over that particular pool.

And really, who can resist anything mysterious? It's an itch that just has to be scratched, though I think E2 are learning (hopefully) that some itches are best left alone.

Cliffie!
Poor Elrohir.

Author Reply: Yes, he does seem to get the worst of it doesn't he? Which is why I've always had a soft spot for him more than his brother.

Aw! will they never learn! Well I hope they get out of this one okay(humm.....who is the mysterious voice?) well I am not thinking to clearly yet as it is Monday and I just woke up and found this to read,so I gotta get going(ugh!) will be waiting for more.

Author Reply: Glad you are enjoying the story. As for the mysterious voice.... well, that's for the next chapter. Don't worry, I'll be updating and bringing the story to a close before the end of the week.

Now that was just cruel to leave me with a cliff hanger like that. Another excellent chapter, as usual. I agree totally with Thandir, hazard pay is definitely warranted. Those two are a menace, actually I'm starting to feel a little sorry for my twins, talk about bad luck. Could you conjure up Legolas or Thranduil, there's just never a wood elf around when you need them.

Update soon (begging shamefully)

Author Reply: They're not called "cliff hangers" for nothing you know! Glad you liked the chapter. DOn't worry, I'll be updating very soon and bringing the story to a (hopefully) satisfying conclusion.

I'm not surprised Celebrian is stressed - and I'm hoping she and Elrond are reacting to the crisis we know has passed.

Glorfindel on man-intimidation-mode is most impressive. And I suspect that Valandil will be only too happy to have the elves pass through quickly. As long as his people haven't done anything to upset them along the way!

Author Reply: My beta-reader said when she read this chapter that she liked seeing Men through the eyes of the Firstborn rather than the other way around. It made for a nice change from the usual stories. The idea that the humans thinking the elves actually needed an escort out of the city must have seemed hilarious to the elves and only the grimness of their mission (and their innate courtesy) prevented them from laughing outright.

And Glorfindel in any mode is impressive, as far as I'm concerned.

The dwarves are loving this, aren't they? Practical joking par excellence. Although, hopefully, they felt guilty for making Elrohir take the long way when he was wounded. Still - Thandir and Eluwen deserve a bit of light entertainment after the trouble the twins are giving them.

I do like the bright-eyed young twins - everything is so new and exciting for them.

Author Reply: Yes, the dwarves are having a good time with the twins and probably spent many a evening afterwards laughing over their performance.

*sigh* I love this story....

Author Reply: The greatest compliment any writer can receive. Thanks.

I love the way you keep going back between all of the parties concerned,it gives so many view points of the story, Elleden and Elrohir are blissfully ignorant of all who are trying to protect them, but that is youth is it not?,I know I have been felt to a degree some of the panic about some of the things my kids tried when they were younger(glad those days are past)sometimes,I hope the twins make it okay will be waiting for more!

Author Reply: I don't think any of us truly realize just how "closely watched" we were by our elders who only wished us the best. Only when we are older do we really appreciate what they went through for our sakes. Hopefully the twins will come to realize this, too, someday.

Oh my - those dwarves (what a great bunch they are!) turned up at just the right moment. Elladan and Elrohir were in a very dangerous situation there - but the luck of the twins held. And Thandir and Eluwen managed to retain their anonymity, too.

And this.... What the goblins did to them then was done in the dark. ... is brilliant. Ominous and scary and far more effective than any amount of description.

I am enjoying this tale!

Author Reply: Hi Bodkin! Glad you're enjoying the tale. When I came to this scene with the goblins attacking it was very scary for me to write and that line just sort of popped into my head. I find that just a hint of a suggestion is often more powerful than all the descriptions in the world. Our imaginations are quite capable of "filling in the blanks" if we let them, and far more effectively than mere words can do. Thanks for your encouragement.

This is going to seem a very long journey for Thandir and Eluwen - a very, very long journey!

The results of the journey are likely to seem very long for Elladan and Elrohir - they have aroused the wrath of some very formidable elves.

Author Reply: You think so? *grin*. I suspect, though, that in comparison to some of their scouting assignments, Thandir and Eluwen would consider this "light duty". As for the Twins.... I definitely wouldn't want to be in their shoes when "adar" catches up with them.
