*blinkblink*
What what in the name of Eru just happened?

But--that was certainly interesting way to end this tale. :)

Author Reply: And there's more to come in Book Two. *grin*

Ahem... allow me to compose myself for my review. I think I'm ready now... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How could you do this to us!!!! Oh, the drama! Oh the action!! Finally, a climatic end to the first book of this story! This is truly an incredible ending. Why do I get the feeling that what we are learning about in the other story is going to be important... perhaps some dimension jumping? This is absolutely fascinating, and very well written. I can't wait for more. Don't leave us hanging on this cliffhanger too long, please!

Author Reply: Nah, nah, nah, nah-nah! *stickes out tongue* But I warned you! LOL And of course I just had to end it with the mother of all cliffies, didn't I? It's the only way of making sure people return for book two. *grin* And I think you can see how I am tying this story in with Wars of the Valar. The reasons for that will become clear eventually. I hope to start posting book two early in the New Year.

Ooookay ... *that* was a surprise.

I guess we’d have to say Glorfindel won -- or at least, that Finrod *didn’t* win. (And a good thing, too, since I’m reading it that Glorfindel’s song was more defensive than offensive?) The only question is *how* they got plunked down where they are (which looks suspiciously like the tenth dimension). No ... there’s no question how they got there ... after all, how *else* could they get there?

Sorry, but now that I think of it, this doesn’t qualify as the Evil Cliffie to End All Evil Cliffies. *That* was the last sentence of Patricia McKillip’s “The Riddle-Master of Hed” when I had to wait *twelve* *interminable* (and highly memorable, even after 31 years) *months* for the next book to be published. I’m considerably more confident about Glorfindel’s and Finrod’s current safety and well-being than I was about poor Morgon’s immediate fate at the end of “Riddle-Master.” But I can’t think of any equivalent Evil Cliffie in fanfic, so I’ll let you have the Evil Cliffie to End All Evil *Fanfic* Cliffies.

[Psst: if you *really* want the Ultimate All-Time Evil Cliffie Champion title, all you have to do is delete the scene in the tenth dimension, leaving us in Vanyamar with nothing but missing elves and melted swords -- and it’s yours.]

“I just need to remember to be careful what I wish for from now on." -- Snicker.

Lord Námo was suddenly there, looking grimmer than any of them had ever seen him -- *Ever.* That’s grim, all right.

The poetry was very effective.

"We cannot stop it now," he said. "It has gone too far beyond our powers to do so without endangering their lives or the lives of everyone else" -- Interesting that their songs could be so strong ... but then, Finrod held his own against Sauron for quite a while.

Melted swords: oh, *that’ll* give everyone confidence....

And Finrod and Glorfindel will argue for the rest of the history of Arda over who would have won. And no one will ever dare let them have a rematch.

Author Reply: Ha! Gotcha! *grin*

I needed the final scene at the end of the chapter because of how the first chapter of the next book will be written. So, even though it lessens the impact of the cliffie, it was necessary to have it here rather than in the next book. I remember the cliffie at the end of "RiddleMaster of Hed"-- very bad! I'm not that evil.

Anyway, I'm glad you found the poetry effective. I wasn't sure at first but I just felt it needed to be there and I enjoyed adapting Canto VII describing Finrod and Sauron's Battle of Songs of Power to this tale.

As to where Finrod and Glorfindel end up and how they got there... all that will be explained in the next book, I promise.

Oh well, so no one won the fight, or both of them, as probably most of us wanted. That was no surprise. But the rest was. I had never expected Finrod to use a Song of Power to fight, and even less Glorfindel to respond in kind. And obviously even the Valar were caught completely off guard. Now I am imagining what the spectators may say and think ...

What leaves me worried about the consequences. Will the Amanians now think all Reborn are dangerous? And what exactly happened to Finrod and Glorfindel? Somehow I get a feeling Iluvatar himself may have taken action? Hmmm ... I think Eiluj was not far from the mark: The Evil Cliffie to end all Evil Cliffies ... May I hope you will be able to start posting book two soon? For I am truly anxious what will happen now. There was no attack of the bad guys as I had feared (well, at least not until now), but I am not sure *this* is better, as it is even more unpredictable.

Anyway, I loved Beleg’s lay, and of course I was amused that Ingwë so suddenly changed his mind about seeing Glorfindel truly fight. And considering the outcome, he was right, wasn’t he?

Thank you for a wonderful story – even if it is leaving me dangling from a very high cliff! ;-)

Author Reply: Book Two won't be posted for some time, but I won't keep people waiting for years like some writers do. I plan to start posting the next book early in the New Year or by Spring at the latest.

I'm glad you liked Beleg's lay. I wasn't sure it would work but I think it helps to heighten the suspense of the chapter.

Thanks for being such a faithful reviewer.

Oh, that was a great chapter and a horrible cliff-hanger just as you promised. :) Ingwe was right in that he shouldn't have been wishing for Glorfindel to stop 'playing' and actually fight because look what happened! *grin*

I have a feeling I know where they are because of The Wars of the Valar, but I'm not sure if they would be allowed there even in that sort of horrible situation they were in. But then Ilúvatar can do what he wants, can't he? :)

I can't wait for the next book, even as I know it will be a few months until that happens. At least I have your other stories to tide me over.

Thanks for writing such a wonderful story and sharing it!

Author Reply: Hi Radbooks! Glad you so enjoyed this tale and are looking for the next book. I"m sure there were many people in the stands with the same sentiment about Glorfindel as Ingwé. *grin* I had a great time writing this story and entertaining so many people. I look forward to writing the next book, though I need to concentrate on the other two stories for a bit. I've neglected them something awful.
