I just lost any respect for Sigmund Freud I may ever have had. I burst out laughing anytime I see a picture of him.

Author Reply: Oh well.... *grin* Thanks for reading and reviewing, Mídhaer.

Does Glorfindel realise that Mithrandir is Olorin?
Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: He does in my universe, Lynda. *grin*

The first time I read it at airport. Not the best place to read it so I am rereading it now.

Hilarious. Sad. One can easily imagine how upset Fëanaro was.

The pride, the pain, the insecurity, the unsatisfied need of love.

His mother is dead. His mother died as the only elf in Aman. He will never see his mother again. His mother died because of him. His mother is dead in spite of him. He was not good enough for her to choose life. He is the only elf, who will never see his mother again.

He is the only elf having a step mother and step brothers. A step mother who is replacing his mothers tapestries with her own, a step mother who started to use another china, a step mother who is gradually erasing all what was left from his mother.

And after Foremost. Yes, his wife abandons him. But it does not matter. He has his father. The first time in his life, he has his father for himself. No courtiers, no subjects, no step bothers or a stepmother stand between him and his father attention. He has all what he all life had dreamt about, what he had all life wanted, what he had all life craved for – the love he so wanted, the unconditional fathers love. His mother is dead. He will never see her again. But he still has his father and he has his father unconditional love. So he can spend long winter nights by playing Monopoly and Scrabble and long summer "white" nights by walking along the sea.

He is exiled, but he doesn’t mind. For the first time in his life, he is content. For the first time in his life he feels truly loved. But it is only mirage.

His mother is dead. He will never see her again. She is dead because of him. His father is dead. His father is dead because of him. He was not at Foremost, when his father mostly needed him. He was not good enough for his mother to choose life instead of death. He killed his mother. She is dead because of him. Now his father is dead, he died in the moment, when Feanaro felt for the fist time in his life truly loved. He died and Feanaro was not at Foremost to protect him.

And the Valar do not help. The ruler is entitled to ask help and advice from his subjects, he is also obliged to rule with help and advice of his subjects. And the first duty of the Liege lord is the duty to protect. Valar failed their duty. Melkor is one of them. They failed their duty and they are not willing to rectify the situation.

And the Oath is sworn, and since there is no way back or it seems....

Author Reply: A very interesting and well thought-out analysis of Fëanáro's mindset, Serinde. I can see why an airport was not the best place for writing this. Thank you so much for reading this story and sharing your thoughts about it. I really appreciate it.

You have to wonder about the Edain, sometimes they can be all that is good and noble and sometimes so dense they can't pour sand out of a shoe with the instructions written on the bottom! Being solotary figures, as so many of Tolkiens were, it is understandable to an extent, you either get up off your duff and do the best you can or you wait for someone to show you the way, with or with out feathers!
Lynda

Author Reply: You do have to wonder about some of the Edain, don't you? *grin* When one reads Tolkien's longer redaction of Tuor's journey to Gondolin in "Unfinished Tales", one gets a sense of a rather feckless youth, at least that is how Glorfindel has Turgon describing him. *grin*

This is one of my personal favorites of my stories. I'm rather proud of the way I was able to blend Tuor's story with a 'behind-the-scenes' look at how Ulmo had to get this particular Adan off his duff and on his way. *grin*

Thanks for reading and reviewing (again), Lynda.

Actually, I think the blame could be split equally between, Elu, Feanor and Melkor! I wonder how much of Feanor's arrogance was his and how much was Melkor whispering in his ear or not, as I don't think Feanor much liked him, though he was still influenced by him!
Lynda

Author Reply: I'm sure you are correct about that, Lynda. In the Silmarillion it is said that Fëanor refused to speak to Melkor and welcomed him not in the councils of the elves, but it is obvious that Fëanor did at least absorb some of Melkor's lies and insinuations and adopted them for himself. That at least is what the Valar say about it. This will actually be explored in my Darkening story to some extent.

Rereading this and wondering what the Valar thought when they finally meet Frodo and Bilbo, also who sang them into existance?
Yes, yes, I know, as if you need any more bunnies!
Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Oh I'm sure Ilúvatar had a hand with the Hobbits. A little surprise for everyone. *grin* And no, I do not need any more plot bunnies, thank you very much. Namo! Put that bunny down... slowly. *sigh*

He tended to sing long weepy lays about loss and death and other dark matters.

Well, that must be a rather monotonous passtime, even for him. Too bad that Dr. Freud is busy therapying his brothers in Mandos - he might be in need of some therapy, too...

Author Reply: You're probably right about that, Soledad. Unfortunately Herr Doktor hasn't even been born yet, so there's no hope there. *grin*

Hehehe! This was very funny, despite the serious content. Loved the Ulmo/Námo interaction and the petuland Osse. And Ulmo's water garden must be a marvel.

Author Reply: Hi Soledad. I'm glad you found this amusing. I thought it would be interesting to see this familiar story from a different pov, and whose better than a couple of Valar. *grin* I have no doubt that Ulmo's water garden is indeed a marvel.

Thanks for reading and reviewing.

I always thought Feanor had an enormous father complex, having named all of his sons after Finwe. It's confusing as hell... as if Quenya names weren't bad enough to begin with. I think only the Finnish can remember them without help. ;)

Loved Sigmund and the Germanisms. German is my second language, I practically grew up with it, so I always find it amusing seeing German words in an otherwise English text. *g*

So, "Herr Námo" decided he didn't have a mother? Well, that is one way to approach the situation... and so very Freudian.

Author Reply: Hi Soledad. I'm sure Freud had a field day with Námo and all the other Valar once he got done with Feanor's boys. *grin*

Thanks for reading and reviewing.

I do feel for Thranduil (who's been my favourite ever Elf since forty-plus years). Every time I use my credit card, I'm afraid I might enter the opening code of the house door instead, they're so similar *g*

Author Reply: Hello Soledad. Thranduil is one of those Elves who grows on you. I've written him in other stories and he features prominently in my novel "Tad Edhil a Firion". I didn't always like him but the more I've written him the more I see beyond the facade of irrascibility that he presents to the rest of the world. I've gotten to like him more and more over the years.

I imagine we all can identify with Thranduil to one degree or another in this story with our password-crazed society. I used to work in a place that made us change our computer passwords every 45 days. I had to make up a list and check off the passwords just to remember which one I was supposed to be using this time around. So annoying.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this story. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
