How great you finally finished the story! I don't know if you want to know, but you once wrote 'small' instead of 'smell' when Barliman complains about the smell.

“Do your worst.”

That one made me laugh. He hasn't totally lost his humour, has he? I wonder if Strider continues to cooperate so nicely once he finds out where he's going the next day.

Author Reply: Thanks, Vilwarin! I'm glad you enjoyed this... and no, Strider hasn't completely lost his humor although I have a feeling it's a near thing. *g* And thanks for pointing out the typo. You check and check these things and still, they slip past. :P

Hope you enjoy the rest of the tale!

I just adore this. Bowen is as stubborn as Strider, and just as good hearted. I'm so happy to see a sequel. *happy face*

Author Reply: Thank you! And yay for *happy faces*! I'm glad you enjoyed the start of this... plenty more to come!

I seem not to have reviewed the first story - how remiss of me! But it is lovely to see this continuation. And oh what bad patients healers make. I have to applaud Bowen for insisting on the poultice - although I was amused to see that Aragorn was quite right that the smell would make him lose that good stew.

I am looking forward to the next chapter with interest; Denlad, and what Bowen's wife will make of the stray her husband brings home, both have me in great anticipation.

Author Reply: Thanks, curiouswombat! No worries about reviews... I'm just glad you read the first one and enjoyed it so that the continuation is a good thing and not something to make you roll your eyes while reaching for the back button. *g*

Healers do make bad patients sometimes, don't they... poor Bowen has his hands full, and he'll have his hands even more full in chapters yet to come, though that's all I'll say for now. *g* Chapters will go up twice a week, as is my habit.

Thanks again!

Again it's confirmed that the healers are the worst patients! Can't blame Aragorn though, that smell sounds (which is an interesting phrase, actually) really bad. And the illness brings some unpleasant memories of my pleuritis, as well. (Tell me Strider, does it hurt when you cough? And is it easier to lay on the side where it hurts? And, by the way, does athelas work as an antibiotic as well?)

But I'm really glad to see this story continue! And Denlad will appear as well, I see, so it can get really interesting!

Author Reply: Thanks, Mirach! And yes, "smell sounds" is very interesting when you really look at it. LOL I'm with Strider, though, in that I wouldn't want anyone coming near me with one of those. :P

I'm glad you liked the chapter... maybe Strider does have a touch of pleurisy. Or bronchitis. Or strept throat. Or... some Middle-earth-itis that no one could ever get here in the real world. Ah, the fun of the fantasy genre! And yes, Denlad will have a part in this. He'd been whining and complaining endlessly that I hadn't let him come out and play. *sigh* (Heaven knows what the ff.net readers will think of him--I realized that he doesn't appear in any of my stories posted over there. Reviews over there might be... interesting!)

Thanks for the review and hope you enjoy the rest of the story!

Cairistiona, so good to read you again. This promises to be a good tale, as the other ones, of course, poor Strider, always in some sort of problem in your stories. I wish that someday, he can pay Bowen for his generosity; it will be a very nice surprise for Bowen to know the King. I remember that I thought Bowen to be a Hobbit when you posted the first story, but I can see him more as a man in these one, a very good man.
Strider sounded as a child when sick, it made me laugh. And it seems that we are going to have Denlad, I really like him and the whole gang, really.

Author Reply: Thank you, Fantasia! Glad you like the start of this. We'll see a lot more of Bowen and what he's like in this story. I think in many ways, he is like a hobbit, in that as a farmer he sees the world through the eyes of one for whom family and tradition and home are everything, and outsiders aren't always to be trusted until they prove themselves trustworthy. I imagine a lot of the Men of Bree, especially the farmers, were typical of this rural mindset, which is also typical of hobbits, and that by Tolkien's design.

And yes, the whole gang will be in this one! Hope you enjoy the tale in its entirety, and thanks for the review. :)

Oooh, lovely!

Poor sick Ranger... Smart of Bowen to guilt poor Aragorn into accepting help.

Nicely done; waiting for the next installment with bated breath!

Marethiel

Author Reply: Thank you, Marethiel! You know, I don't know if it was cunning or just plain exasperation on Bowen's part when he inflicted the guilt trip, but it certainly did work. :) Very glad you enjoyed the start of this story--I'll be posting two chapters a week, another one coming up on Friday. :)

Thanks for the review!
