Elf Academy Part Deux  by Fiondil 18 Review(s)

Atto,

Okay, I couldn't decide which was funnier, the commentary on Elrohir/Serinde, and Elrohir needing to 'man up'...the side note about Elrond and Galadriel's "well, finally!" to all and sundry...or the fact that poor Shane is stuck with her mother and they're BOTH ill. Well, not the last one, as it sounds too much like what Emma went through, stuck here being ill until she could travel. Luckily she was a much better companion than Shane's mum would be!! (And doubtless Emma was a lot more comfortable here than she would be in Alaska, LOL!)

Anyway, I'm glad to see Ron is a patient ada, unlike another Ron I know...

Tye-melin,

Kaylee!

This chapter brings memories from the last ice storm back where we were without power for 5 days in the middle of winter. I wish we had elves as entertainers back then. I loved Galadriel's comment, but poor Elrond.

Author Reply: I'm sure this chapter brought memories of similiar storms for a lot of readers, obsidianj, including myself. And it wouldn've been nice ot have a bunch of Elves enttertaining us, as well. *grin* Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

*eyes title suspiciously* Why do I get a bad feeling?

Now that's an idea, counting that for the camping requirement, lol. Though, seriously, they get a free "how to deal with a crisis" lesson there. If any of the future Elf Guides ever encounters a similar situation, they have a very good idea how to act.

Why did I have to think of a certain few Hobbits when Glorfindel mentioned second breakfast? But you know, he should be glad that he has to deal only with the 'big folk' – what do you think how long their food would last with 400 Hobbits around? One day or two?

Nice little banter between Jud, Derek and Alex. Glad to see that Alex seems to feel better.

Was rather amused about Vorondir's and Glorfindel's talk about Elrohir and Serindë. Her parents obviously can't wait to wed her off! But it would be nice, and maybe we get to see a bit more of that than with Amroth and Nimrodel?

Ugh, Shane has the Norovirus – AND to deal with her Mum? Poor girl, she doesn't deserve that!

All in all, the day went rather well, and despite the title, the chapter was surprisingly quiet and peacefully. Still waiting for the other shoe to drop, knowing you I just can't believe nothing out of order – and bad! - is going to happen!

Author Reply: Hi Kitty. Well, as you see, this chapter really just showed how the storm was affecting both Mortals and Elves and how they were coping. As for the other shoe... well, that's coming soon enough, I promise. Thanks for leaving a review. I appreciate it very much.

Okay - stupid me. I have just reread the chapter and finally got it that Farrell is at the Inn and Shane has her mother at her apartment so strike half my spoilery thoughts!

Author Reply: But they were very nice spoilery thoughts, nonetheless. LOL!

Hi Fiondil, sorry about the late review it has been that kind of week. I think that I must have been the first to read the chapter when it popped up and the last to comment.

Did I gather that Farrell and Shane & her Mother are all stuck in the same Inn? Because if they are I am have all sorts of spoilery thoughts or potential plot bunnies wandering through my head involving speaking in feverish sleep and letting cat out of bags although i won't elaborate further.

A lovely, gentle, ending to this chapter. Too quiet to last long methinks! *grin*

Author Reply: Hi harrocat. No problem. I can certainly relate. When I first got out of the hospital I found a couple of stories that I've been reading had been updated in the meantime and while I read the new chapters is was still a few days before I felt strong enough to leave a review.

Anyway, to answer your question about Farrell and Shane and her mom, no. Mrs. Becker is at Shane's apartment while Farrell is at the inn. I can see where there would be lots of plot bunnies running around loose if they were all at the inn, but even so, it would be doubtful that any of them would run into the other, especially with Shane and her mom both down with the virus.

And you're right that it's a bit too quiet and things will heat up again soon. Thanks for taking the time to review. I appreciate it very much.

I don't do well in enforced time in a single room, and some of the other students must be about ready to go stir crazy. But...if there are good books...well I'm much better then. I hope there is a break in the weather soon for all concerned!

Loved the short aside about Elrond's asking Celeborn for Celebrian's hand.

- Erulisse (one L)

Author Reply: Which is why they call it 'cabin fever', Erulisse; no one really does well forced to remain indoors in a single room or set of rooms. Even with good books to be had, it gets tiresome after awhile (I'm experiencing that myself as I'm getting just well enough that I'm bored and sick of staring at four walls but since I can't drive yet I can't go anywhere and the enforced inactivity really gets to you after awhile).

Anyway, a break in the weather will be coming up soon and we'll see what the Elves have planned. I'm glad you liked the short aside about Elrond. I had fun with that.

Thanks for taking the time to read and review. It's much appreciated.

They've weathered the first day well, but I hope the Elves start scheduling some time for themselves to sleep! I have to say that a found-his-soulmate Elrohir makes me smile. Anybody in the offing for Elladan??

LOL at the the recounting of Elrond's request for Celebrain's hand! Celeborn's always been one of my favorites; I figure he had to be quite a character in his own right to make a go of it for thousands of years with Galadriel; maybe irresistible force meets immoveable object...

I'm glad to see Alex recovering, and hope the forced confinement will be a good thing for Shane and her mom.

Author Reply: Hi Lyana. Now that they've gotten into a kind of routine, I have no doubt that the Elves will be taking turns. Elrohir was the first to go down, but the others will follow as they can.

Glad you loved the recounting of Elrond's asking for Celebrían's hand. I've always liked Celeborn, too, and wished there were more tales of him than there are. I am always happy when the Muse gives me a "Celeborn" story to write.

Thanks for leaving a comment. It's greatly appreciated.

Yikes! A wedding. I remember the last wedding you wrote about. A cake disaster and so much more!!!

Glad Alex is doing better and that the twins are getting some rest.

I can't believe they have to go til Saturday with such harsh conditions. Shane will probably not be a pleasant person to be around once this is all over. *g*

Nice chapter. Good scenes.

Author Reply: Hi Agape. I'm sure Elrohir and Serindë's wedding won't be quite a... um... exciting as Finrod's.

And I remember when we had a major ice storm, some areas were without power for a week or two and in the North Country, the entire infrastructure was destroyed and had to be rebuilt from the ground up and that took nearly six months! So a few days is nothing in comparison.

Glad you liked the chapter, though. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it very much.

This was a nice chapter, no new difficulties, just people coping well with the curfew. The running and walking places were a good idea, the students will be tired and won't cause any trouble. Poor Shane and her mother, though.

Galadriel's comment was really funny! *grin*

I hope you feel well.

Author Reply: I rather liked "someone" but Mex is cool too. *grin* Yes, a nice quiet chapter as people hunker down to survive the storm and keep their sanity. Glad you found Galadriel's comment funny, but I do feel sorry for poor Elrond.

I'm getting there. Each day I'm feeling a little stronger. Thanks for yor good wishes and for the review. I appreciate them both very much.

Ah! Quite the evening's entertainment. Glad that a good time was had by all, and I'm certain Lord Námo's lullaby was put to good purpose. I hope Farrell and Mrs. Becker are able to contain themselves during their temporary captivity! Heh! Poor Shane and her family.

Author Reply: Yes, a good time was had by all and I have no doubt Lord Námo's lullaby was put into good use. As for Farrell and Mrs. Becker... I'm sure they managed to survive the storm and the virus well enough. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. It is much appreciated.
