The Journey Home  by Fiondil 29 Review(s)
KevanaReviewed Chapter: 43 on 7/1/2013
What a perfect way to bring us full circle! Even though we didn't get to see Maglor's reunion with his other family members, given their status as Reborn I'm sure they welcomed him with open arms, and it's good to know they had backup waiting in the wings just in case. And maybe they did eventually get a proper tea with the Valar, after everything settled down, haha.

Now I'm curious about Estë's lake and what's so dangerous about it, other than the lady herself. Well, I guess I just answered my own question, there. *grin* Cirdan trying to sail on it, pfft, that's a priceless image in any case.

It's great, too, you left it open-ended in that some Elves could still be wandering around in the developing world. I really liked the reference to the war you mentioned in other short stories that led to the Flood. Do you have any idea of when that took place in regards to this story - long before, shortly before, during it?

I had to laugh at Námo's line about closing up shop and going home. And the poor bored Maiar. *giggle*

I so enjoyed how you showed this little family coming together, growing, and persevering over so much. Such a satisfying conclusion, Fiondil. Great job, great story, kept me on the cliff's edge quite a few times and broke my heart a few times too. I'm so thankful for all the hard work you put into this, and thankful to Sunny as well for encouraging you to write this in the first place after you did the short story!

I hope Maglor went on to write many more songs that became "modern classics" to the Elves. I wonder if he ever put together the tale of the Harthadrim? I'm sure there were many in Aman who wanted to hear such a thing! It's amazing. It's like if William Shakespeare happened to saunter up and began writing more plays after being gone for centuries (well, if the Bard was immortal and had also happened to have just been forgiven for kinslaying..) I wonder if he eventually had a lot of young wannabes banging on his door and wanting to apprentice with him! LOL.

Congratulations on another completed story and thanks for taking us on the journey. It was worth it!

You have a glorious week and a fantastic Fourth! Watch out for stray fireworks, and I'm eagerly awaiting your next project.

-Kevana

Author Reply: Hi Kevana. I thought it was appropriate to begin and end the story with the Valar.

The last ice age ended abruptly about 13,000 years or so ago in the southern hemisphere and came to an end in the northern hemisphere about 2000 years later, so this story takes place in part of that time period when I imagine there were major climatic changes all around and perhaps some places warmed up sooner than others and some places may have suffered more cold for brief periods of time before the climate moderated.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this tale and that you found the ending satisfying. I enjoyed writing this story though there were times when I had no idea what was going to happen next. *grin* Thanks for all your lovely, long reviews. I appreciated every one of them.

Have a glorious week and a fantastic Fourth, yourself, and I hope you enjoy the next story which I will start posting beginning Friday.

Oh, nicely done! Still a few loose ends but they are not going any were just yet.

No, I don't think Maglor, or the Harthadrim will be living any were but fairly close to each other and I don't think Maglor will be too far from his Naneth and brothers.

Irmo is not thinking this through properly, with beach front property and a nature preserve he will have elves flocking to Lorien, he could make a bundle and retire to Tahiti!

Sorry to see this one end, it will be going on the e-reader, might even try to put it on the tablet, I still haven't made it in to the valley for driving lessons for it, maybe Friday, I am off that day. I am working the 4th, but hopefully it will be fairly quiet and at least they are feeding us so it should not be too bad.

Looking forward to your next story,
Have a happy 4th,
Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. I suspect you are right that Maglor and the Harthadrim will be sticking close together and that they will all join Maglor's brothers and naneth in their new settlement and become one big happy family.

That's too funny about Irmo. I love your take on him.

Next story will start on Friday, so you have something to look forward to on your day off. Good luck working on the 4th.

Thanks for all your reviews and your oopsie alerts. I appreciate your eagle eyes. Hugs.

What a beautiful ending to this long difficult epic in the life of Maglor. It is so good to see Maglor getting the healing and hope and future he and his family deserve. I love the family Maglor has now as well as the hope for a future with the family he will rejoin.

“Well, if he does come, I refuse to reconfigure Lórien with beachfront property,” Irmo declared with a huff and they all laughed. LOL!

Who ever would have guessed that some who did not heed the call would go on to form the Elf Academy???

Author Reply: Hi Ellie. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for all your help in making this a great story. I appreciate it very much. And yeah, who woulda thunk it? *grin*

I rejoice that these are returned home at last, and are finally knowing the peace they both require and desire. And the plans for the future sound --sound, at least. And I see that room remains for those who become the core of the Elf Academy to remain until the time comes for their purpose to be made manifest. Well done. And another maze? Hope they don't find themselves totally disoriented before they are ready for it, knowing what becomes of those who find themselves in Namo's mazes!

Author Reply: Hi Larner. Oh, this maze is one of Irmo's for the enjoyment of the Reborn or anyone else recoverying in Lórien for whatever reason, so the only real danger is forgetting how to get back to the entrance once one has found the center. *grin*

Anyway, I'm glad you rejoice in how Maglor and the others have returned home and last and are finally knowing some peace. And yes, we do get a hint of those Elves who remained behind to become the core of Elf Academy.

Thanks for taking the time to read and leave reviews. I've appreciated them all immensely.

Metta? Metta?? Nooooooo! *sigh* Okay, this *is* a good stopping place for this wonderful homecoming story, I'll give you that. But this...

"“We will not allow them to meet alone and in fact I plan to monitor that meeting very carefully. Unlike his brothers, who have passed through Námo’s realm and been purged of all their darkness, Macalaurë still has darkness in him, though the greater darkness has finally been purged with his renunciation of his Oath. It will take some time for him, for all of them, to be purged of what darkness still clings to them and enter into our Peace.â€

I wanna see this!! I wanna see it NOW!!!! *toddler stomps* *crosses arms* *pouts*

Okay, little tantrum over. I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this story (even the end, despite the tantrum *g*). It was such a fulfilling thing to see Maglor finally coming home and overcoming (most) of the darkness, and truly, I have no problem with an ending that doesn't tie up all the loose strings. I'll miss the updates on this story, but hopefully you'll return to Maglor at some point and give us, as Paul Harvey used to say, the rest of the story. In the meantime, good luck on whatever story you're writing next.

Author Reply: LOL! Oh I imagine you're not the only one to be having a tantrum over the ending, Cairistiona, but I am glad you agree that this was a good stopping place. There amy or may not be a sequel to this story sometime in the distant future, but in the meantime, I have another story that I will begin posting on Friday that I hopw will keep you entertained and I am in the middle of writing Elf Academy 3 if you've been following that series, so something to look forward to. Thanks again for all your wonderful reviews. I've enjoyed them very much.

*applauds* A marvelous, masterful story, full of emotion, suspense, and surprises, and also delightful humor such as:

I do not recall Atar telling us to close up shop and come home.

I can redesign part of Lórien as a wilderness preserve

*grins* Well done, my friend.

Author Reply: Thank you, Shirebound. I'm so glad you loved the story, especially the humor, and I appreciate all your reviews. On to the next project.

Oh no, its over :'(

But I'm glad that it was a truly happy ending for Maglor, coming home to his family and having his own family now too. It was a very beautiful tale and wonderful while it lasted. I will miss the updates.

But there are so many other stories that could be told from here too. I wish I could beg you to write of Olorin's adventures when he goes back to Middle-Earth, together with Fionwe and their fellow Maiar. That should be fun.

Anyway, I remember you did mention that you will be starting another story soon (you didn't think I'd forget that, did you?), so I'm really looking forward to that :-)

Author Reply: Hi Celeth. Yeah, it's over, but who knows? Maybe there'll be a sequel sometime in the future, the Muse and Eru willing.

At anyrate, I'm glad you enjoyed this story and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know with your wonderful reviews.

I will be posting the new story beginning on Friday. It's about as long as this one was so you'll be reading it through the rest of the year. That gives me time to be working on Elf Academy 3 *grin*

Thanks again for your reviews. I very much appreciated them all.

Lovely conclusion to a great story. I liked having an idea of where everyone would finally settle. I also like the subtle references to the Elf Academy series. Great job all around. May you have a great summer.

Author Reply: Hi UTfrog. I'm so glad you enjoyed this story and found the ending to your liking. A new story will be up on Friday and I hope you enjoy reading that one as well. It's a bit different from what I usually write. Thanks for all your reviews. They were gratefully appreciated.

It's Over!!!! *sobs* Fabulous work! Fiondil, is it ok if I copy your stories for reading (again!) on my Kindle?

Author Reply: Perfectly okay, CaitlinRennes. I know a number of readers who do just that once the story is completed. I'm so glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it.
