Elf Academy 3: The Enemy Within  by Fiondil 48 Review(s)

Aw, dang cliffhanger!
Way to go Daeron for picking up the slack, and it is good to hear that there was no violence even though there were protestors.
I completely approve of Gavin bringing his e-reader on watch. ;)
Two chapters in one go is awesome, thanks!

For the last 4 years I've almost constantly been in the process of reading or re-reading of Fiondil's stories. I've never managed to get over my lurker tendencies long enough to actually write a review, and I never could have imagined I'd regret that as much as I do now.
I found Fiondil's writing during a very difficult time in my life and in some strange way it was just what I needed. It has been a source of comfort and escapism that has brought me through some of the most difficult transitions in my life so far, and affected not only my view of Tolkien's world, but (as with all good stories)also my theology in ways I never could have anticipated. Certain themes or lines would stick in my head and make me question preconceptions of mine I doubt I would have confronted otherwise, or help bring peace during a crisis of faith.
His stories have a life all their own, and, for me, go beyond fanfiction to stand alongside Tolkien's work. I cannot read one without the other.
I can honestly say I've grown as attached to Námo, Glorfindel, Finrod, and the rest as I did to Frodo and the Fellowship when I first read Lord Of The Rings in elementary school.
Rest in peace, Fiondil. Thank you for the joy and inspiration your stories have brought and will continue to bring me and many others.

I feel rather a fool to have gone rambling on in my comments on the chapters without having checked the last reviews, and grieve that Fiondil is no longer with us as in the past. I, too, had wondered, and sent him a couple of emails yesterday to see what might be up. And, knowing his past health problems I'd wondered if he might be in the hospital unexpectedly. I pray for him and those he loved and who loved him in return. May the Peace of God hold him ever near to His heart.

I am saddened to hear of Fiondil's passing. I had a strange feeling that something happened. Fiondil wrote so many wonderful stories that I couldn't wait to read the next chapter of this story or that story. I constantly re-read many of the stories he has written and will continue to do so. He will be missed greatly. I am glad he had such wonderful friends (Alassiel and Ellie) to rely on for any and all insights to the characters, info and story lines he used in his stories. May he rest in peace.

Oh...

I just glanced back through the latest reviews, wondering if there might be some explanation about the delay in posting, as Fiondil was as reliable as clockwork in his posting schedule... perhaps more, even. I remember recently he let the readers know when a chapter would be posted in the afternoon instead of the usual early hours.

Thank you, Ellie and Alassiel, for letting us know. Thanks, too, to Nilmandra and Daw for making later chapters available.

I will miss Fiondil's hopeful vision, that brought light to some very dark days. I will especially miss his faithful response to every review: "Thanks for reviewing. It's very much appreciated."

Bless you, Fiondil. I hope you are surfing the stars.

I too was afraid when I saw that Fiondil did not post on Monday. I am continuously moved by his stories and he will be greatly missed. Thank-you to those who are working to make the rest of his work available. I share with you who are posting here as we grieve this loss.

Undoubtedly a good thing to remind us of our cast of characters. Glad to see Turgon feeling useful--a very good thing for this one, I think. And the others are all proving good watchmen as well--well and good!

Now to learn who won the election.

Ai, Fiondil, such sad news, may you go gently into that good night, may Maia sing you to your rest and may Namo see you safely to the Timeless Halls and into the arms of God.
You will be greatly missed.
Huggs,
Lynda

I'm incredibly sad to learn that Fiondil has passed away. Although hobbits weren't his main focus, he very kindly reviewed many of my stories, and was always very generous with his knowledge. He loved the Professor's rich and infinitely inspiring world and characters, and was beloved by fans and friends all over the world. May the Eagles bear him swiftly to that far green country which he helped many of us envision more clearly. He will be greatly missed.

Ai! Fiondil you will be much missed. I now regret not being a more faithful reviewer. Your work and insights have affected my life most profoundly. God's blessing and rest be with you.

From the Catholic funeral service- it seems appropriate....
Saints of God, come to his aid!
Hasten to meet him, angels of the Lord!

R. Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

May Christ, who called you, take you to himself;
may angels lead you to the bosom of Abraham.

R. Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.

R. Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

Many thanks to those who are seeking to honour him by making the remainder of his work available to us.
