Second Chances  by Larner 69 Review(s)
AndreaReviewed Chapter: 14 on 3/24/2016
Wonderful! I wished we could live with the seasons like Sam does. But today there are so many other interfering things, that it seems to be impossible.

Author Reply: Each season does bring its special delights as well as its particular problems. But Joy seems to dominate the pains for the most part, and we can be content with that, I think.

"It’s where I was planted" - I love this. How very Sam to think in those terms. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I so agree, Antane. Sam especially would appreciate the metaphor.

This is the greatest evidence that Frodo had grown so much - going from wishing Bilbo had killed Gollum, a stranger Frodo had never met, to giving mercy and forbidding revenge against someone who had just tried to kill him, a stranger he met in the most terrible way. His heart had completely changed, a good that the Ring never intended but through which he learned much.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: One can choose to recoil from life, to hate those who offer such evil behavior, or to gain in compassion, and that was Frodo's choice in the end. Well deserved was his acceptance amongst the Wise, don't you agree?

I thought the fog was such an interesting aspect of that particular unfinished tale.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: As did I, Antane. Great minds think alike! Heh!

That's Sam = so full of life, cheer and hope for any time of the year :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Ain't it the truth? It's why we love Sam so, I think!

Oh, for the life of a Hobbit.

Author Reply: Oh, to have this Hobbit's simple wisdom tempered by unthinkable experiences.

Ooh, I love this! Such great use of the way Tolkien portrays water as carrying messages in his mythology. Poignant but lovely image of Frodo too. Thanks!

Author Reply: Thank you. With patrons such as Osse and Uinen, Frodo should always get at least some word of those he left behind, at least. And I love Tolkien's intimation that water of all elements most clearly holds echoes of the Music of Creation within it.

Well that was...appropriately ominous. *gulp*

Beautifully written and atmospheric. I love how you played out the fire imagery!

Author Reply: Thank you so! One of the more serious and ominous stories in the Sil, of course, so I'm glad my drabble appears to suit!

I like this very much.

From Frodo's POV there is no "true evil". Everyone deserves a second chance to start a new, better life.

That has nothing to do with a lack of experience. It is an attitude and a belief!

Author Reply: How well you put it, Andrea! Thanks for this insight!

To save Boromir's honor let's just say that after the fit of laughter passed, he immediately went over to help his brother and the poor baker ;-)

Author Reply: Well, it is to be hoped! Heh!
